California Festival of Beers Volunteer Opportunities
In 1984, a small craft brew festival was organized in the Spike’s parking lot with proceeds benefiting Hospice SLO. What became of that festival is what we now know to be the California Festival of Beers, one of the largest and oldest regional beer festivals in California. Each year attendees sample, learn, and enjoy beers from over 70 breweries from around the world all in the name of Hospice SLO which receives 100% of the proceeds. “Beer Fest” as it is affectionately named has become a Central Coast institution and brings nearly 2000 people a year to the Central Coast- including Cal Poly Alumni who remember the good old days here in SLO! The Festival is held annually on Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-27, 2012.
Now that Beer Fest has turned 26, we’ve decided to let it grow up a bit and return to its roots; the art and love of beer. We are proud to be launching two new wrap-around events for the wildly popular Saturday festival; a Connoisseur Dinner above beautiful San Luis Obispo, and an American Home Brewer Association (AHA) sanctioned Home Brewer’s Competition with Brewer Panels and Symposium on Sunday. There is sure to be an event for every beer lover!
In order for this event to be successful, we rely heavily on a large team of volunteers. There are many ways to be involved; we are seeking volunteers for the following jobs:
- Planning and Coordination
- Donor and Sponsor communication
- Gate, VIP Tent, Brewer liaisons, Volunteer liaisons
- Event Assistance
- Set-up
- Clean-up
- Merchandise sales
- Security Assists
Volunteers receive full training for their positions, lunch, t-shirt, and free entrance to 1 event during the California Festival of Beers weekend. We do ask each volunteer to donate $15 to help cover the cost of training, lunch, and shirt. These opportunities are perfect for Community Service/Interest groups and clubs, Sororities, Fraternities, individuals, and those seeking community service hours.
All volunteers must be over the age of 21.
